Brake S-cams for buses – Shafts and mechanisms for drum brakes
In buses equipped with a conventional drum-brake system, the brake S-cam (camshaft) is a critical component for effective braking. It transfers the force from the brake lever (slack adjuster) directly to the brake shoes. Construction and function of the S-cam in the braking system
The S-cam is a hardened shaft ending in a characteristic head (S-cam) which, as it rotates, pushes the rollers of the brake shoes apart.
